Macarthur Football Association is proud to officially launch the Talent Development Program (TDP) - a major new initiative designed to strengthen the player development pathway in our region and ensure that grassroots players continue to have clear, local opportunities to progress into NPL programs.
Launching in July 2025, the TDP has been developed in direct response to Football NSW’s decision to conclude the Association Youth League (AYL) at the end of this season. This structural change left many families and clubs asking, “What comes next?” — MFA has designed the TDP as the answer.
This program reflects our unwavering commitment to player development in our region. It provides an essential platform for aspiring footballers aged U12 – U18 who are ready to take the next step in their journey from community to NPL 1, 2 or 3 football.
About the Talent Development Program
The TDP is built on nationally aligned coaching principles and a strong performance framework, offering:
- Program developed and managed by Tim Aitken (MFA Head of Football) – AFC A Licenced Coach with experience in National teams and the A-League
- Expert coaching delivered by a team of Football Australia accredited coaches
- A high-performance training environment with a focus on individual player development
- High Performace games against other Associations and NPL clubs
- Tactical development with position-specific coaching
- Individual player talent ID program with feedback from program coaches
- Player Development workshops focusing on all aspects of football
Whether a player is aiming to represent their local club, play at a representative/NPL level, or have the aim to represent our state or country, the TDP is a vital stepping stone.
Some of Australia’s most talented footballers, including Brett Emerton and Alanna Kennedy, began their journeys in Macarthur. The TDP is about continuing that legacy, keeping local players local for longer and ensuring that talent emerging from our region is recognised, supported, and celebrated.
Paul Bertolissio, General Manager of Macarthur FA, said “The TDP will help unearth some of the best young talent in our area, with a high-performance approach from our coaching team led by Tim Aitken. This program is designed to bridge the gap between club and NPL football. This will give the next generation of local talent the opportunity to be identified, coached and selected for NPL clubs. Through our training program and Talent ID games, TDP will create opportunities for players never seen before in Macarthur”
Full program details and eligibility criteria are now available on our dedicated Talent Development Program page. Whether you’re a player with big dreams or a parent seeking the next step for your child’s development — the TDP is here, and it starts now.
